Wisdom Wednesdays: Riches vs Beer

From Poems of the Elder Edda
Translated by Patricia Terry

If a man takes with him     a mind full of sense
he can carry nothing better;
riches like this     on a strangers road
will do more good than gold.

If a man takes with him     a mind full of sense
he can carry nothing better;
nothing is worse     to carry on your way
than a head heavy with beer

Beer isn't such     a blessing to men
as it's supposed to be;
the more you swallow     the less you stay
the master of your mind.
